June 7, 2022 #Shelley200: Shelley for Our Times (Zoom), 20:00 – 21:30 BST

Join us for a final special guest edition #Shelley200 online roundtable ahead of the Shelley Conference, 8-9 July 2022.  This free roundtable event, to be held on Zoom, offers three speakers writing essays for Percy Shelley for Our Times, a volume forthcoming from Cambridge UP that argues not only for Shelley’s value to a number of contemporary issues including settler colonialism, nonbinary gender, and a politics of hope. Individual speakers also show how Shelley imagines his own version of futurity by envisioning audiences across space and time. Speakers will include Nikki Hessell, Gerard Cohen-Vrignaud, and Kate Singer. Following a stimulating roundtable discussion, the audience will be invited to participate in a Q&A session. This event will also be recorded and shared online, welcoming further discussion. Book here.

On the evening before the bicentenary of the death of Percy Bysshe Shelley, we present two short talks by scholars working on a volume forthcoming from Cambridge University Press entitled Shelley for Our Times, which argues for Shelley’s value to a number of contemporary issues including settler colonialism, nonbinary gender, and a politics of hope. Omar Miranda (The University of San Francisco) will discuss ‘The Shelleys and Exile’ and Kate Singer (Mount Holyoke College) will discuss ‘The Witch of Atlas and the Magic of Shapeshifting Gender’. Following the talks, Anna Mercer will host a discussion around the themes raised.  Tickets £6.00 (all proceeds go direct to Keats House Museum).
