Byron Bicentennary Events & New Website from the Byron Society
The Byron Society (UK) has compiled a wide-ranging series of Byron bicentenary events (also a list of externally-hosted events) taking place around the world and online in the next few months. The month of April (and thereafter) is especially packed with a diverse series of conferences, symposiums and cultural across various Byronic locations—Newstead Abbey (a 2-day conference at Byron's ancestral estate), Trinity College (a 2-day symposium in Cambridge), Rome (3-day symposium) and Greece (July 7-day conference)—where Byron has spent parts of his life.
A new website has also been launched on Byron’s 236th birthday, January 22, 2024, along with a special fund-raising project for relocating a Byron statue to a more accessible location in Hyde Park. Details of the wonderful initiative can be found on this page. With the support of the London Ballet Theatre, the proceeds from the February 17th performance of Aladdin will go towards the relocation project.
The next event from the Byron Society will be an online interview with Sir Drummond Bone and Andrew Stauffer—where they will discuss their publications on Byron—The Cambridge Companion to Byron (2006) and Byron: A Life in Ten Letters (2024). Register here to attend the talk on March 12 from 1:30-2:30 ET / 5:30-6:30 GMT.
