A Statement from the K-SAA Board on Racial Justice in America and Beyond
Please see the following statement from the K-SAA Board of Directors.
During this tumultuous time, the Keats-Shelley Association of America joins in solidarity with those who condemn all forms of racism and acts of violence against black and brown people in the US and around the globe. Here’s what we’re specifically planning to do:We will make significant donations over a five year period to organizations supporting anti-racism.We will initiate a special series of blog posts on our website investigating from multiple perspectives Romantic era responses to the long history of slavery, empire, and colonialism, as well as how those responses have been explored and interrogated in the contemporary academy. We will initiate a “teaching link” on these matters intended to provide inspiration and practical materials, and also be a site for ongoing conversations, among our membership, as well as colleagues who are not (yet) members. We will diversify our Board of Directors. We will strive in concrete ways to foster a more inclusive and open community, both within and beyond the academy. We look forward to an ongoing dialogue with our members on how we can accomplish that goal together.
